Winter Trout Fishing (Less Hatches, but Midges, BWO’s pupa’s, eggs and worms get you by)

The Deschutes River and Crooked River are two of several Oregon quiet retreats for Winter fly fishers. The weather can be harsh. Plan accordingly. Have backup clothing for the worst case scenario. Take breaks. Keep it simple, safe and relax. Note the solitude. Study, reflect and be thankful. Think about it, either you are unemployed, under employed, retired or able to get away while employed. No matter what, if you are there fishing, you are able to get there, healthy enough to make it through a day or two and should be thankful. Bring a camera, good food, warmth and comfort, take a nap, plan. it is all good. If you are young enough then go ahead and perform the blitz, frenetic all day fish-a-thon, while you can.
