Carbon Credits Horseshit

obamabinky-ace

Similar stories are repeated across China and elsewhere around the world, as hundreds of hydro projects line up for carbon credits, at a potential cost of billions to Europeans, Japanese and soon perhaps Americans, in a trading system a new U.S. government review concludes has “uncertain effects” on greenhouse-gas emissions.

As you pound your chest in glee and flip off Bush/Cheney on their departure, I hope you will be equally vigilant in the years to come as O steers us toward absurd ‘green’ policies. If you value your liberty so much, I imagine you will recognize an immensely greater threat to your liberty than Bush or Cheney ever imagined…unless you have bought into all this horseshit…if you have already changed your bulbs, you probably have.

Steelhead and the Hatch (the natural state of a rainbow to a green drake…beautiful)

//www.wagnerrods.com

Green Drake~http://www.wagnerrods.com

Tube flies, Temple Dog wings, skagits, scandi’s, running line, Snap T. Do you remember how to present a drag free drift with a dry fly…not a skater…a dry fly for those trout you have ignored the last five to ten years. This is crazy cool and I am sure if you were fortunate enough to be here, you would figure out how to present a dry even if all you had was a two hander. I have heard of steelhead on the D rising to October Caddis. I am sure this happens beyond the fabled waters of B.C., but again this exploration of the B.C. rivers yields one amazing image-visual after another and always reinforces how valued these fish are. Matt McCrary’s Basic Tube for Spey Flyfishing

Matt McCrary's Magic

Matt McCrary's Magic

This was an example of a tube fly that Guide Matt McCrary gave my son to use as a template while learning how to tie tubes. Life like and not too dense, this fly captures the values that  make a tube tied in the round highly effective. This fly not heavily winged ala the TD style.

“Listen up!!! This message is for you whether you live in Norway, Oregon or British Columbia…. Our steelhead are suffering and need your help!
I have started a fundraiser called Flies For Fins. I don’t want your money, but I do need some of your time and tying materials.
I am working with Reaction Fly and Tackle, Pacific Angler, Michael and Young Fly Shop and Whistler FlyFishing to raise money for the Steelhead Society.”

Flies can be shipped to:
8505 Norman Cres.
Chilliwack, B.C.

Thank you so much,
April.

Tony Muncy states he is commited to tying up a dozen of his tube flies for the Steelhead Society’s efforts being highlighted by Ms. Vokey. But, I am a bit confused by the Steelhead Society’s health. Does it exist to the degree to influence policy now…or is this fundraising an effort to give the organization some legs to possibly influence policy in the future???  (http://forum.flybc.ca/index.php?s=fdd95632fda65e8b488fc0155a1beb8e&showtopic=10168&pid=111400&mode=threaded&start=#entry111400)

On 2/7/09, I discussed this with April and she confirmed that all proceeds will go toward the protection of the steelhead habitat and toward support for mounting this effort…excellent project.

AEG Film Tour Schedule 2009 (oops, The Drake Flyfishing Film Tour)

ffft09postervenues

http://anglingexploration.com/FlyFishingFilmTour/

‘So, did AEG (Thad, Chris, and Justin) sell a majority stake in their company a while back? How does that happen? That is too bad, those guys were great. I hope they get something up going again.’  (Deerhawk..Moldy Chum)

‘After the recent resignations at AEG, speculation has been growing about what the future holds for AEG Media and the 2009 Fly Fishing Film Tour. Well all the speculation will be put to rest shortly and AEG will be announcing some new developments sometime next week.’ (Moldy Chum, 1/10/09)

New Owners Ensure a Future for the Flyfishing Film Tour

‘The tour will be called The Drake Flyfishing Film Tour, as my partners and I did not acquire the name AEG. Other than that, the most substantial change to the tour is that the filmmakers will take a share of the profits, based on a model that the Banff Film Tour has been using for years.
My two partners are Doug Powell and Chris Keig, who are both avid flyfishermen, and who both have substantial experience with film tours through their work with Warren Miller Entertainment.’

Pale Morning Dun (and emerger, nymph, spinner)

A freestone Summer staple in many Western US streams, the PMD is so available that one should take the time to tie up nymphs, emergers, duns and perhaps spinners. The PMD nymph is a blocky clinger that I think is easily matched by GRHE’s or a pudgy PTN. Sizes 14 to 16 are usually appropriate. Like the Callibaetis, the PMD gets progressively smaller as the season advances. Start larger (14) in June and tie on smaller (16) as you move through July into August. The nymphs are going to be in faster currents and subject drifting. Fishing the nymph alone or as a dropper is the norm. I have used the general purpose Gold Ribbed Hare’s Ear and a Copper John. The emerger pattern is so enjoyable to fish that I would experiment with all the regulars (Klinkhammers, Quigleys, or an in the film unweighted nymph). The dun pattern has been for me a tannish/cream dun, either a parachute or standard dry with a dun colored wing. I mention  spinners because they are do fall in the evening and a few are always a good idea. I know this because I am often without them and hence unprepared (I have had this problem with Callibaetis spinners as well).  I am by no means an expert re mayflies and only know what I do from observations and studying Westfly, Troutnut, Worleybuggerflyco. I do know that they are necessary on Western US rivers.

Fotografiando Moscas (photographing flies…how to)

http://www.conmosca.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=2168

img_7829a

I took this shot last year when Tim Barker at Planettrout.com suggested taking a photo in direct sunlight. I consider the above shot one of the most enjoyable results I have created. I took this shot with the fly box setting upon a mailing envelope. The box and envelope were setting on a side bar of my BBQer. The results were perfect.

Fliegenbinden (Gunter Feuerstein’s Flipper Attraction for Tube Flies)

“On the following pictures you will find some flies which I have beein using approximately for the last 10 years. Especially the pike patterns are nothing new for me but I have never taken the time to write about them. The idea of adding a feather stem with some fin-alike rest of the tip was to create some additional attractive spot on the streamer….If you add some flippers in the way shown in the pictures, these flies work even better. Especially in fast water they still show action and when the fly enters slow water parts the flippers open like a flower. No doubt that salmon and seatrout notice this additional movement. Have a look at the creations and maybe you will try one of them some day.”

There may be some worth to this concept of a ‘flipper’ tied in at the sides or slightly below the tube. I would hesitate to affix the flippers to the top of the fly so as to not disprupt the qualities of the wing material. The beauty of Temple Dog, Arctic Fox and Krystal Flash can be enhanced with this simple exciter component. This is definitely worth a try on streamers and steelhead/salmon patterns.

Strung Out Leech Technique (Extended Body and trailing stinger)

'Strung Out' Technique

'Strung Out' Technique

“The MOAL was originally designed by northwest steelhead guide Derek Fergus, the Strung Out Leech and the Mother Of All Leeches – MOAL have become a popular new direction in fly fishing circles. The benefit of the S.O. or Strung Out design is the short hook which does not come out as easily during strong battles with heavy steelhead. The Strung Out Series can be adapted to other patterns as well. Northwest Featured fly tyer John P. Newbury has taken the MOAL to a second generation in design.”        http://flyfishnw.com/content/view/97/60/
