Hobo in the Mountains
Creek Walker passed along this picture of Hobo on an excursion into the back country (Isn’t it mostly back country?). Note the nice fish …plentiful bounty in the day. CW recently advised she intends to share more of her recollections about what she calls the most glorious place on Earth….Montana.

Creekwalker…. That would be amazing I would love that!!! Wow what an honor for you to even consider me…thank you. THANKS!!!!
Maryam..I will scoop you up next summer and we will go on a road trip..honest! I’m serious girlfriend…let’s go!
Dear Creek Walker,
You have such amazing pictures and stories I am so thankful you share. Please share often so that I can imagine and think about what wonderful memories you have for the passion you love. Someday, someday I would love to visit Montana with my fly rod in hand. Maryam
Well this is what I get up to! All I wanted to do was drink my coffee and read the latest fly pattern, but no. Kelly and I have had a big laugh over this recently. I had to eat crow because I really remembered it to be up Lost Horse, and we had a bet. I dug out the other pictures and was proved wrong..yes, I was wrong Kel, it is indeed the East Fork up out of Sula, Montana.
Were these guys eating breakfast together? LOL
That back country looks like it is in southwest Montana just before you go over the pass into Idaho. It is bugging me because I know that place: could be up off of Evaro too. In any case nice picture. I don’t like keeping fish that way however.
Thanks for writing David….I imagine we have a few opinions…some pretty definitive….on where Hobo is standing. Re the fish…I personally agree. A mitigating point that may be in order: my understanding of the area and the parties involved are that they are very reverent of their state. They harvest fish, but not the proverbial stringer or branch of ten dead trophy fish. They harvest enough for a dinner… I know in B.C. I often see fly fishers take their two 16-18″ fish for the day. The bottom line is the yield is such the fish can be removed as a food source and there is no thought to over harvest…just a balance and respect for the fish, nature and man’s needs.
In Oregon, no such balance exists and the ‘put and take’ ODFW mentality has infected so deeply that any fish in as many numbers as possible are taken. Consequently, short of a few rivers and lakes, the fishery sucks. When people live in the land of milk and honey and are good stewards I look past the harvested fish.
Your points are well taken. As for Oregon and the debacle of overfishing for the sake of the take…I think some things are just plain wrong!
Sula, Montana–Eastfork–See I am right haha
Thanks! Well, that settles that….
Looks like up Twin Lakes area. That would be in the Sawtooth Mountains.
See if I’m right.
