Fly Tying: Motely Crew Peeking Caddis

Part of the rescue flies program, I tied these long ago with brown rug yarn and a semblance of a peeking pupa (or is it larva) protruding from the casing (rug yarn). The hook shank could have been longer to form a slightly longer casing. Not sure it matters much. The pattern is not weighted…probably should be with a couple turns of weight beneath the casing. The flies are on a size 12 hook.

Fly Tying: Peeking Caddis Pupa

Peeking Caddis Pupa

Black thread (8/0 or smaller)…Hook size (size 10 to 14)…Abdomen (Tan Hare’s Ear)…Ribbing (Tinsel, Gold, not wire)…Thorax (Synthetic Cream dubbing, slightly thicker than abdomen) Legs (Partridge feather; I wrapped the feather but it could be tied in beard still under the thorax)…Head area (Ostrich or  Peacock).

A TDC (as I earlier wrote, my only fly as a kid) and a Peeking Caddis (pupa peeking out of a suggested casing).
