‘I hadn’t seen George for awhile’ (make it better please)

The Wicked Web We Weave When……………………

Gina ... lost her tackle

“Gina … lost her tackle

 Angling star had rod removed

Gina le Faux, 51, was once George Faux, a professional folk singer who lost his rod in sex-change surgery.

She won the England ladies’ fly fishing championship in 2005 and said last night: “Angling is a passion.”

Gina, of Sowerby Bridge, West Yorks, was wed nine years and has two children.

But an angling official said her male past was no problem, adding: “Strength has no influence in the sport.”

Ban Flyfishing, Fish are Individuals Too (Ecobots unite!)

Save The World~Ban Fishing

Save The World~Ban Fishing

“As PETA and other anti-fishing activists gear up for another year of protest, their tactics are likely to become more confrontational. They will follow the example by a few activists in the UK with their Campaign for the Abolition of Angling. In Europe we can find the anti’s very active especially in Germany and Holland. The European greens could also prove dangerous to angling. Which brings me to another point. If you’re planning to vote for the Green Party in the coming elections, ask your candidate what their views are on fishing as a sport.

The anti-fishing movement in Germany make a practice of throwing rocks into popular fishing waters and sending scuba divers down to spook the fish. I am also told that all fish caught must be killed. Silly, you say? Sure, but effective. Remember protests have produced fishing bans on some lakes and streams in Europe. Though many of you anglers would like to believe otherwise, PETA’s campaign – and the media attention it already attracts – is no joke. It’s a serious business and remember, they want to ban the keepingof animals as pets. Including fish in tanks!” http://www.fishing.co.uk/article.php3?id=1658

‘Many people have never stopped to think about it, but fish are smart, interesting animals with their own unique personalities—just like the dogs and cats we share our homes with. Did you know that fish can learn to avoid nets by watching other fish in their group and that they can recognize individual “shoal mates”? Some fish gather information by eavesdropping on others, and some-such as a type of South African fish that lays eggs on leaves so that they can be carried to a safe place…’ http://www.fishinghurts.com/

Imagine reaching for an apple on a tree and having your hand suddenly impaled by a metal hook that drags you—the whole weight of your body pulling on that one hand—out of the air and into an atmosphere in which you cannot breathe. This is what fish experience when they are hooked for “sport.”

‘Many people grow up fishing without ever considering the terror and suffering that fish endure when they’re impaled by a hook and pulled out of the water. Recreational anglers rarely stop to contemplate that fish are complex and intelligent individuals. In fact, if anglers treated cats, dogs, cows, or pigs the way they treat fish, they would be thrown in prison on charges of cruelty to animals. Even when anglers put fish back in the water after torturing them, many of the fish die from their stress and injuries. A 2006 study conducted during and after a Wisconsin fishing tournament found that hundreds of fish who were caught and released had died within a few days.’  http://www.fishinghurts.com/Angling.asp

OK, my ecologically principled flyfishers, these are your politically empowered eco-associates. So, Disassociate! They are no longer the fringe kooks, but aligned to have their regressive way.

The only positive thing in all of this is that Tshirt model!

Could we PLEASE have some common sense re the environment?

‘Lake Bait’ Stillwater Nymph (Red or Green Barbs?)

I previously posted about the worthiness of this pattern on lakes. I remarked upon how much the top mounted red barbs glowed with the fly wet and in the water. Further, I wondered if the barbs were side mounted if it would enhance the visibility of the ‘hot spot’, the contrasting hackle barbs. I believe it does. Also, hot orange washed out and disappeared. Green and Red held their color and contrasted nicely. I imagine that I could experiment further with the spectrum and use purple and blue as trigger points. For now, green and red look good. Tie these and let me know what the results are.  I used the Tiemco straight eye hook and I know some worry about losing fish. I have not really noticed this problem but the hook can obviously be changed and the pattern still remains sound.

Also, pic wise, I incorporated some side lighting (toward the eye/right side) and experimented with the f-stop (f22). I immediately noticed I liked the lighting but I need a small tripod because the hand held mode is just too jittery..most shots did not turn out. Learning as I go.
