So many patterns, so many options. I know. I like this pattern and The Harriet (I posted it last Summer here). How simple is this pattern? Put on the bead of choice on a curved pupa hook. Tie in braid and melt end so it doesn’t unravel and dub over tie in point for thorax. Done…Diving Caddis, Caddis Emerger…simple to tie. If you want less diving, use a glass bead. Mix up your dubbing. Above on tan pupa, I used the same dubbing I used for the early posted (today) Caddis/Dragon Pupa. On the green pupa I used a mix of fur, Ice Dub and some cut up tinsel, which I blended together and can use when I want a scraggly dubbing with some flash. Whatever, mix it up, throw in a hackle collar if you must..but you don’t need to. Those busy, busy little dubbing fibers will be pulsing and waving all over the place.
Looks simple enough. I am relatively new to tying and I much prefer to tie flies to throw that catch fish rather than to show. But what is the braid material for the body?
Thanks,
Jim

This link will help you indentify the braid material. There are a couple materials that are the same..don’t over melt the tip and will be a nice body material…

How do you melt the pearl core braid without ending up with a brown tip? I have tried a match, stove top burner and bic lighter, but they all left a brown, burnt end.

William…I use a lighter or BBQ lighter. I can only say timing. Quick! and damp with thumb/finger tip. I probably mess up 10%, but they will still fish fine as they are tumbled down the riffles/rapids. I actually haven’t thought much about it as they have been working for several years. Also, micro chenilles show the burn even more (Poopah’s) and they also fish fine. Now if you are talking show, perfection then, for me, trial and error….all I can say..
