Fly Tying: Timberline Emerger~Stillwater Callibaetis

Well, I tied these and then noticed I forgot the copper wire ribbing. There sets the spool of fine copper wire and not one piece or ribbing used. It will work. Hardest part (and not hard) is pairing two hackle tips of the same size and tying them in. The tips should not extend back beyond the abdomen; even shorter perhaps. I dubbed this body and it is a little ragged. The missing ribbing would have helped bind down some of the errant fibers. (Timberline Emerger Pattern). I presented this once before with the ribbing (see 7/19/09). Tie it in tan or gray (original). I use chickaboo feathers instead of marabou fibers.

I know this particular tie was rough but I like tying these. Your ties are always tight and very well done, I wasn’t being a smart alec. The wing attachment is very well done in my book.

Oh, I didn’t think you were. Given your abilities, I appreciate the compliments. Personally, that seems a bit ragged, but what is interesting to me is how I don’t often see it with the naked eye. The camera lens shows it which makes me all the more appreciative of the work at Danica or the other excellent photographers that depict flawless flies. I know mine will work just fine, but it does reflect my less than crisp ties sometimes. I may have to resort to those magnification goggles for tying that make one look hilarious when you look up… thanks again.

I like this pattern. It is a faithful producer. Nice tie.
