Safe Sex: Going Down With a Bang

“April 4, 2010 picture provided by Bob Benda, a bird rescuer and biology professor at Prince William Sound Community College, shows a female eagle who fell into the snow in Valdez, Alaska.”

“An acrobatic display of passion proved too much for a pair of eagles engaged in a mating dance in Alaska’s Prince William Sound. The surviving female bird is recovering from injuries sustained when the winged couple slammed beak first into a hard snowbank in what her rescuers believe was an aerial courting ritual gone awry.”

The male died in the impact.

Fly Tying: Dubbing

‘Dubbing is the post-production process of recording and replacing voices on a motion picture or television soundtrack…’

‘When a guy’s frontal parts are pushing out onto a girl’s butt in the act of dancing.’

‘Accolade, the conferring of knighthood.’

Oh, finally found it: Dubbing is used as a body material for many nymph patterns and is widely used in the Western US for dry fly bodies where more buoyancy is required than a standard thread body can provide.

I have posted about dubbing before. This posting is a simple reminder that beyond buoyancy, dubbing is animation, suggestive of life, of wings, of legs, of gills, of antenna, of movement. Experiment with it’s untidy side too (especially for caddis pupa’s emerging).
