My son would be alive if I had known about heart compressions when he had a sudden heart issue while playing baseball in 2006. I screamed, Call 911-call 911- the guy who did, didnt stay on the line with them-the fire station was in sight of the field but took 10+ minutes to get there-apparently not knowing that my son was unresponsive because we werent on the phone with 911. A nurse ran up, but did nothing, didnt even start heart compressions (or CPR as they recommended then) when my son started having the “raspy breathing” I later took an AED course at my church-my daughter is a nurse..she wasnt there…lack of quick and adequate response took the life of my precious son. After my health collapsed from the traumatic stress, I found a place called Parent Heart Watch that encouraged PROPER physicals for young athletes. I have a story about PHW and my son on my blog. I am going to try to copy the link to my article and PHW-if it doesnt get on, I will try again. This is the most important blog most people will see. I am passing it on and thank you for making it available….beebeesworld http://beebeesworld.wordpress.com/2012/06/22/parent-heart-watch-how-to-help-save-the-life-of-a-young-athlete/
Bless you! Thank you for responding with your personal experience…a most profound experience that now touches others with your strength. I can only imagine. Thank you.
