Stillwater Damsel Fly Pattern (Cope’s Damsel)

Olive Green Damsel Pattern (Based on Cope’s Damsel)

Stillwater Fly Fishing: I have for several years tied a very fluid damsel pattern (Georgi’s Damsel) with the bushy marabou/chickabou tail. Or, I’ve tied the more static, more slender Cope’s Damsel version. I really think they both have been perfect damsel patterns.

Georgi’s Tan Damsel (SwittersB)

As much as many of us opt for the more fluid materials to impart life, the slender, more static Cope style (originated by Jim Cope) is a very productive pattern. Not the first time I have shown these patterns, but well worth a revisit.

Kayak vs. Motor Boat Dangers on Film

Michael Rischer from KayakFishingOregon.com captured a very close call with a motorized boat on a waterway near Portland, Oregon. Mr. Rischer has quite a few (38) fishing videos on YouTube, from a kayak, in the Portland metro area. Seems to be mostly gear fishing, but if you are into kayak fishing you may find it interesting. The safety considerations of operating a motor boat, bow in the air, must never be forgotten.

Emma Is Half Way There…Thank You

Emma, according to the doc, held up just fine. He got in and found a severely ruptured disc and pulled it out like strands of spaghetti. The bleeding was a potential problem so he didn’t dawdle. Her weak heart held up. Now we wait several days to see what shakes….hopefully that tail. And, as was said today, by Craig in the comments section, the rehab is as challenging for the care givers as for the pup. Small price to pay. If no further complications in the weeks to come Emma girl will be shaking that rear end soon.

The most sincere thanks to all here and at Hoarding Woes that extended their very kind well wishes and prayers. Thank you!

Wild Land Fire Fighter Dies From Falling Tree

Anne Veseth, Volunteer Wildland Fire Fighter Dies

“For wildland firefighter Anne Veseth, the danger came not from out-of-control flames, but from above: She was struck by a falling tree on Sunday, ending her life at just 20 years.” (more)

I know several, perhaps you do as well, young kids who want to become a fire fighter or do something seemingly epic. The ones I know, are fully aware of the dangers. Most have also done volunteer fire fighter work for smaller towns. Always dangerous. The Feds can come do their due diligence and studies after the fact. In the meantime the kids are out there. A very dangerous undertaking and exhausting. Harsh Summer.
