A True Religion? Fly fishing? OK, you can throw in fishing in general. And, I suppose most outdoor activities lend themselves to inspiring, invigorating, renewing positives within us….if we let them. No, we don’t have to constantly seek some religious experience on each outing. But, we might want to sometimes reflect upon the purpose, as we see it, for the outing. Set the Alpha aside to experience, to mentor, to enjoy ‘the moment’. As always, No Fish or People were hurt in the production of this episode.
Every time I fish I feel a sense of renewal. It soothes my mind and eases pain. Even when I fish with others I never venture too close. My time with my thoughts, the water, and the sounds of nature is something I truly need and value. Of course, catching fish is great, but not always a necessity. Nice fish!

Many people think that (we) hurt animals during this beautiful activity, and I just try to explain that it is not and ended up getting to the religion in the middle. While talking too much, I think that within the outdoors, fly fishing is one of the ones we connect with nature.

Well it isn’t like organised religion, I wasn’t “told” I was a fly fisherman when I was three, I have never been compelled to wage physical or emotional war on bait anglers, I didn’t have to don a fishing vest every Sabbath, my wife wasn’t “trained” to fillet fish before she could marry me and I wasn’t threatened with a life of eternity without water should I fail to visit a stream on a regular basis. So actually perhaps it is a true religion, one of my own choice, one where I commune with the natural world, give thanks, immerse myself in the complexity of it all and revel in its magificience.. Yeah I would call that religion.. 🙂 ………Nice fish by the way..
