Rain Drops Without the Clouds: Corixidae (Corixa)

An odd moment can happen to you in September/October on a lake. Big, splatting rain drops hit the surface. Problem is there are no clouds in the sky or if there are they don’t seem to threaten rain. How is this rain possible? Well it is the return of Corixa to lay eggs after a mating frenzy on a late Summer love fest. Their dive into the surface and the resultant plop is your signal to tie on that Corixa pattern you tied three years ago and never used…’til now. It needs to dive and dart so however your tie it or whatever sink line you use, get the fly to sink quickly and dart/jet it a bit to attract attention.

You can, of course, experiment with this pattern even if no mysterious raindrops are plopping near you. Also, Corixa often rise to the surface and dive back down.
