Oh you just know I love Portland’s repurposing efforts!!! Such benevolence! Yes, I have touched upon this before, but as I drive to work each day, I am struck by the worthy practice of dumping your stuff at the curb to best benefit your fellow man/woman. Such is the continued feel good, misdirected, self indulgent practice of putting furniture, bedding, clothing, you name it on the curbside because….well, it hasn’t a damn thing to do with taking care of your ‘community’!!!

We have learned to accumulate, but we know absolutely nothing about de-accumulating. Recycling takes a great deal of thought, as I have learned these past few months when I was going through all my “stuff.” I’m beginning to see that recycling begins when you reduce consumption. Love your post, as always.

Hilarious. If you want to see how dirty your couch truly is, set it out on the curb. Something about natural light, it really brings out the dirt. Can you imagine what a theater seat would look like?!

Cleveland did this…put anything out on Wednesday and city trucks came around to pick up. Cut down on the illegal dumping in the Metro-Parks. It started a mini-industry of people driving around in trucks picking up usables and selling them. I furnished three apartments when I was a broke student. But, if people abuse it, or stuff is getting dumped every day, I can see a big problem. I lived in Portland for two years, and the city seemed fairly well run. Maybe not.
