The daily excursion commenced with arising at 0400, tinkering with gear, grabbing a light bite and coffee and then, as a group moving down to the boats in the bay and venturing forth at 0600.

“During the Cold War there was some nuclear weapons testing in the Christmas Island area. The United Kingdom supposedly conducted its first successful hydrogen bomb test near here on 15 May 1957; Christmas Island was the operation’s main base. In fact, this test did not work as planned, and the first British H-bomb was successfully detonated over the southeastern tip of Christmas Island on 8 November 1957. Subsequent test series in 1958 took place above or near Christmas Island itself. The United States conducted 22 successful nuclear detonations as part of Operation Dominic here in 1962. Some toponyms (like Banana and Main Camp) come from the nuclear testing period, during which at times over 4,000 servicemen were present. By 1969, military interest in Christmas Island had ceased and the facilities were abandoned and for the most part dismantled.” (Wiki)

The Disgruntled Cat & The Intruder

Penny the Cat SwittersB SwittersB SwittersBAlpha Kitty, Penny the Cat, stares at me each morning this way. An earnest gaze  and persistent stance upon my chest, her eighteen18 pounds atop her paws presses downward as she kneads my  chest. Food. She is the designated pest for the other cat and the two dogs. Wake up.

She has been out of sorts lately since a new kitten entered our home, a rescue, with great energy and a total lack of respect for Penny. Eventually, Penny has come around week by week.

The kitten is now found sleeping near Penny and staring out the same window at the visiting hummingbirds. They are working out the place of things. Less piddling in odd places. Less hissing and smacking with paws. Surprisingly, most patient have been the two dogs…giving a wide birth to the two felines figuring out turf.

Photography: Stonework & Cobwebs

Cobweb and stonework SBPhotography of old stonework and a cobweb: As you probably know, ‘cobwebs’ are ‘spider webs’. The gauzy appearance is different than the more ornate patterns woven by different families of spiders. Particulates gather upon the sticky webbing giving the cobweb that recognizable Halloween like design. Here old stonework and and old back door provide anchor points and privacy for the trap. Cyriak’s Creep Spider Animation “Cobwebs”….pretty cool.

Photography: Shady Front Porch & Imagination

This old farmhouse endures and the front porch has such character, wrapping around the house. One can imagine comfortable chairs to sit upon as one gazes out at the sky…only the fancy scroll cut millwork separates. The wear of time and many coats of paint are visible on the wood. Cob webs dance from point to point.

The traditions of U.S. home styles (Euro origins) is interesting. Here is a listing of various styles of homes  (I don’t see the bungalow, ranch style or single/double wide trailer?! 😃) Sitting on a front porch in the shade, gazing out and daydreaming. Free of the have to’s, should’s, need to’s.

Photography: Once Pristine……

Once a beautiful, Victorian garden on a remote dairy farm in the 1870’s, the property has been tended to by volunteers over the years. It still is inviting, even as the structures attempt to hold on in their ‘historic’ image without too much tinkering/patching.
