SwittersB & Fly Fishing. Well, admittedly I have not been wetting a line of late. Soon, but in the meantime I am catching and releasing, so to speak, other beautiful creatures. This morning, my wife (hmm? shrieked? or loudly exclaimed) let me know there was something unusual in our backyard. I moved toward the window to see a coyote hopping about the backyard as if playing or stalking, almost like a cat does.
I grabbed the camera. Slid out the back door, careful to not let a our dogs or cats out to complicate the moment. I saw the coyote nearby. Focused upon me but not skittish. The coyote moved, stopped, looked, moved toward the escape route. I snapped away and caught something after all.
We have had coyotes for the 16+ years we have lived here. We live on the edge of development and undeveloped farm land and wetlands. I have never been able to capture one before. Today was a good day. Heck, this week was a good week: a bat and a coyote! In Portlandia!
“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be
satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
