Photography &/or Fly Fishing: John’s Advice Poses Questions

Howdy SwittersBAt the risk of waking John up, I have a consideration perking away in my mind.

John's Advice SwittersBI know I can be rather energetic and prolific when I accumulate images that have inspired me and I feel I cannot pace out the sharing of them. I just want to share. But, John is not at all pleased with, not just the annoying email alerts that I have posted, but also, and most importantly to me, the content of my posts. He does not appreciate my photographic focus, so to speak.

In the five + years that I have been posting at SwittersB & Fly Fishing no one has ever commented upon my content or judgment on content. And, as many of you might respond, do as you will and ignore the comment.

It is not that John’s comment is devastating as much as it raises a question that has been admittedly irritating me: SwittersB & Fly Fishing originally was indeed only peripherally about photography and then usually about fish or flies or water or nature. So, when I ventured toward areas away from water and fishing was I confusing the situation for the visitors?

SwittersB has evolved toward the appreciation of life, imagery, nature, fish and art with a dash of soulfulness. Should SwittersB branch out to SwittersB Photography and perhaps also a separate SwittersB & Fly Fishing or just combine my passions into one brew and let it be as it has been? I just seem to have ventured hither and yon over the last few years, as I have in life.

“The prince looked hither, thither, and yon for the beautiful woman who had lost the glass slipper.”

I will have to think about this more. I always viewed my photographic efforts as just gravy or icing on an otherwise decent offering. I hope I didn’t wake you up with an email notification yet again John.

Each to their own, there is always an off button somewhere if you don’t like something. To keep this light I will use a topical analogy, SwittersB is a bit like an Xmas advent calendar you don’t know what’s going to be be behind the window each day but it’s always a wee surprise. I am a fisherman and a photographer and I enjoy little glimpses into a world far from me. Keep up the posts I for one would be sorry if you separated your two passions.

    Dear John….
Well for the time I have followed your blog it has had a lot of variety. He can change his notifications to only receive them once a week if he is a wordpress member My only complaint is I miss your fly fishing advice, photos, tying tips and I feel your pictures are a bit redundant. You are an inspiration and john should research wordpress if he is fed up with email notifications.

Hey,John, chill out, man. Do you define all aspects of your life so narrowly. Life is an experience, an expedition – it’s part of our nature to want to see and learn new things. Why not just let SB be your guide, as most of the rest of us followers do.
SB, man, you just keep on doing what you’ve been doing. Unfortunately, a lot of us don’t take the time anymore to show/say that we like something, we just complain when we don’t like it. Well, I’m saying that I do like your broad strokes of life, and you make my life better. Thanks.

I think it brave that you bring such a matter to the public eye to be honest. I suppose that at one level your blog is exactly what it is supposed to be a “Weblog” of things that happen or simply interest or inspire you personally and that everyone has a choice whether to subscribe to your output or not. My personal interest has always been in the fishing but then again I have learned some interesting things, followed some inspiring links and opened my mind to different possibilities because Switter’s B drew my attention to that of which I was previously unaware. There are rare occasions when I choose not to open the posts or at least only look at them later at a quiet moment. In the end I figure that what you put out there is “your stuff” and what people choose to read is “their stuff”..
