The Garden Shed: Magical or Scary?

“It was just a weathered garden shed,
In the shadow of a tree,
With faded boards and sagging door,
But a wonderment to me.”

The Garden Shed by David Pekrul

Do you remember the garden shed as a child? Was it dark, full of cobwebs and that certain smell of the earth and aging wood? Or clean, well lit and functional? No one in my neighborhood had anything but mysterious, dark, earthy smelling sheds. I recall stealing a kiss from a neighbor girl in a garden shed. It was all so mysterious and secretive then.

My Grandfathers shed was full of mystery to me so many exciting things to discover and the smell was wonderful. I recently was at a friends new house and he was showing me around the extensive grounds and we happened into one of his many sheds, after the passage of 50 years since I was last in my Gramps shed the memories came flooding back it was the same smell, it almost brought me to my knees so strong was it. If I had closed my eyes I would be right there on my tip toes trying to see what he was doing on the work bench and him ruffling my hair. It was a very moving moment for me and I have asked my friend not to do anything with this particular shed until I have had a few more smell experiences. (He bought an old garden centre so there are loads of sheds but only one smelt the way it did)

….”It was all so mysterious and secretive then.”…just then?

if we had it figured, would we still try so hard to get another one or two?
