The Banana Split, and its variations, is credited with its beginnings in a soda fountain in Latrobe, Pennsylvania in 1904 when an apprentice pharmacist named David Strickler concocted the Banana Split for young people to boost business. A whopping 10 cents was charged for the dessert. In short order the popularity of the dish spread.
Charles Rudolph Walgreen, who operated pharmacies in Chicago, adopted the dish as a centerpiece for Walgreen pharmacy soda fountains and the dessert became even more popular.
Lord, that thing would do my gut right in. I wish I knew how many banana splits I’ve eaten in my life. What a gorgeous ring on that finger. To heck with the split, I’m interested in that ring. 🙂
