I was standing at the low point of the ‘wash’. You could see the terraced surface moving uphill toward the tree. At some point, the heavy downpour ensues and the water races downhill over the non-absorbant terrain. The willow tree gathers enough moisture out of this feast or famine watering. I suppose it is a rare occurrence to witness a wash rapidly filling up with waters from up the way. Excuse the gabby gal in the second vid.

The ‘Wash’ (Flash Floods)
The Tahquitz Canyon hike is satisfying in that you quickly leave any sense of civilization, once leaving the visitor’s center. The rugged terrain surrounds a not too difficult journey. In that short distance (1 miles in to falls/350′ elevation gain) you enter a historical canyon (Cahuilla Indians) area that has a diverse habitat. Rock formations, foliage, the stream and vistas combine for a condensed experience. (more history)
The trail starts with a bit of green amongst the what seems to be endless grey rocks. But that is a deception because soon enough around that bend there is plenty of trees, vegetation, a small stream and a lovely waterfall.
