Didn’t make it…………..

photography-SwittersB-dead tree-natureWell now, not being superstitious…too much…there was something a bit off putting to have this dead tree in close proximity to my parent’s graves. Just sayin’ However, it did make for a chance at depth of field.

In Remembrance…Happy Mother’s Day

photography-Mother's Day-cemetery-SwittersBIt can be awkward if you haven’t been there in a while. At first, I need to orient myself to the right marker. Then I gaze down at the names. I recall the faces. I study the dates…my how long it has been. I look up at the clouds and think about the image, the picture…but seriously, why did I come here? I look back down. I silently utter words of endearment, but they are awkward after all because I haven’t uttered them in a while.  I purposely refocus in earnest and tell them I love them. I give the Mother’s Day greeting and I give a heart felt thank you. I scrape some tried, dead grass off the marker. I walk back to my rig, feeling more fragile, more vulnerable. I miss them.

Reflections………

“Habit rules the unreflecting herd.” William Wordsworth

“Bewilderment increases in the presence of the mirrors.” Tarjei Vesaas

“There’s just something unsettling about studying your reflection. It’s not a matter of being dissatisfied with your face or of being embarrassed by your vanity. Maybe it’s that when you gaze into your own eyes, you don’t see what you wish to see—or glimpse something that you wish weren’t there.” Dean Koontz

On a more positive note: I was attending a yard/garden show. One vendor, his first such show, was displaying assorted wooden designs. This starburst pattern caught my eye because the mirrors were so beautifully inlaid that at first I thought I was looking through the holes until I realized I was looking at the reflections of the nearby grass. The pieces were unique from the usual copy cat/cookie cutter yard art one finds. And, yes there are those times we actually like what we see.
