Love’s Connections

He was 98, she was 103. Married for almost 70 years. One morning, he was found to have passed in the night. They waited to tell his wife that morning. They told her, she said nothing. Her eyes, her countenance said it all. She passed within the week. Dearly in love until the end. They held hands often. They had a profound influence upon those that witnessed this love, this passing. Most of us will never experience such longevity in our lives or our relationships. However, we all can appreciate the magic that blessed this couple until the end.

My grandparents had that. My grandmother died first because she wanted it that way. Sitting at the kitchen table in her apartment she’d told me, “I told God I don’t want to live without him. He’s strong, he’ll be ok. I want to die first.” She did. My grandfather spent the next couple of years wandering between his children revisiting the places they used to live. I knew without being told he was expecting her to show up some how, that he’d turn a corner and she’d be there. I never doubted they’d planned it. When it didn’t turn out that way he died too.

They met when they were both very young and knew. They were married over 60 years…

Very touching. Just your little story brings tears: ‘..expecting her to show up some how, that he’d turn a corner and she’d be there.’
It certainly makes one think of the varieties of love, relationships, faith, loyalty, dependency and the power of the will to live or die. Thank you for dropping by.

It was the way they knew each other. If there was a way, they’d find it… the perfect balance of romance and reality.
