This unique Rhody is surrounded by blackberry briars. Protruding up through the bush from all directions, already towering above the shrub, the neighbor does nothing to halt the growth of the invasive briar. An affront to good gardening and being a good neighbor. The neighbor fails to cut his grass, so the weeds go to seed and blow with the prevailing wind. Moss, briars, decaying leaves and muck show a life distracted, consumed or just done. The neighbor’s house and yard is in neglect. Relationships with neighbors have dwindled or were never formed. No one attempts to bridge this gap of unfamiliarity. Shades and curtains always drawn. Decay inside and out. Yet this beautiful rhododendron puts forth unattended beauty.

A Rhody & Briars

Nice shot. As you probably know, we are abutted by the jungle of a garden neglected for five years. The sad story is that the only daughter of a couple who died within a fortnight of each other has been unable to bear clearing the house or maintaining the garden. We have every sympathy with that.

Oh I have seen that too and I believe that is the identical scenario going on here. Life just closes in and they become a recluse. Decay ensues.

I have had several neighbors over the years, just as you described in this post. People are so different. This flower is beautiful even though neglected.
