a gift to others….

“The planting of a tree, especially one of the long-living hardwood trees, is a gift which you can make to posterity at almost no cost and with almost no trouble, and if the tree takes root it will far outlive the visible effect of any of your other actions, good or evil.” George Orwell

How many have you planted?

A historical note: a gentleman, up in the tree trimming branches, was killed some years ago and fell to the base of the tree.

Planting trees and George Orwell – two key words made me think of books and reading. George Orwell has some great essays about his time being a school boy, working in an old bookstore, and about the values of books. I think if we continue to plant “book trees” in other people’s lives, their roots will reach out and benefit us all, like trees produce oxygen.
