Road trip…

“Now, on this road trip, my mind seemed to uncrinkle, to breathe, to present to itself a cure for a disease it had not, until now, known it had.” Elizabeth Berg, The Year of Pleasures

There were those times in life when time, money, lists didn’t constrain. A road trip with someone special was a free flowing event full of discoveries and happiness, of freedom to be in the moment.

road trips are the most innocent and enjoyable of the American vices

    long or short…no matter

you are in the moment accruing pleasure at whatever speed you’re moving
twice that if you are doing it with an interesting partner

just ignore all that other crap and go

it really is in your best interest

Totally agree….I became oddly nostalgic for what should be a more typical event, but has become more rare it seems. Wanderlust!!! Hope you are well…..

        life gets in the way

you live long enough and the people close to you go away

last year a friend of my wife lost her husband and it pushed a button

we took a month, 10k we didn’t have and drove a little over ten thousand miles

saw things we hadn’t seen before

hell, we saw things in each other we’d forgotten about (luckily they were good things)

we never found the circus but running away from home was a very good thing

it didn’t take as long to regain “normal life” as I would have liked but that road trip made some excellent memories!

For just a road, trees and a sky, that’s pretty nice. You really have a good eye.

C. S. Lewis on Do Gooder Tyranny

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
