Warrior Point Lighthouse (built 1889) situated on Sauvie Island along the Columbia River to warn incoming ships of a bedrock reef that juts out from Sauvie Island into the Columbia River. As many as 2000 large cargo ships pass by this small lighthouse into Portland, Oregon each year.

rustic remnants…

The Gulick Homestead in The Dalles, Oregon. A Scottish settler married a Wasco Nation woman named Harriet and constructed a homestead on the banks of the Columbia River in the late 1800’s. A very few of the buildings barely stand today.

Sic Semper Tyrannis

There’s No Accounting For Taste; Search the Blog for Much More. Thanks for Visiting!

C. S. Lewis on Do Gooder Tyranny

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
