WTF! Giraffe ‘Hunting’ for Sport

Some things are so iconically sacred in nature that their demise should/must generate a response to abuses. So, when I came upon a piece about the decline in the giraffe population I was interested to followup. Imagine my disgust when I discovered companies actually provide a safari experience to hunt/kill giraffes. I am not anti-hunting, but this is beyond the pale. Shame meter pegged! The giraffe populations are allegedly in serious decline….could these morons be part of the problem…of course they are! All rationalizations aside, this is obscene.

Dining with a view…

red tailed hawk-birds-hawk-Oregon-photography-SwittersB

I barely know a robin from a hummingbird. I never quite have the right lens available and having but one camera, the swapping out of lens, in the moment, rarely affords me the chance to snap a shot of most birds. This morning, a red tailed hawk was dining on some unfortunate varmint atop this post. I pulled up expecting the immediate lift off. Instead the hawk tugged, pulled and gulped away. I still didn’t have the right lens with me, hence the noise from too much clarity/sharpening, but it was still interesting to watch until the bird dive bombed away from the top of the post.

“Wildlife” Much too trusting…….

Moseying across a roadway, down into a residential area. Hunkered down behind some grass and shrubs. Checking me out, but then what? I seem ok? Deciding to continue grazing. I snapped the little fawn. Much too trusting.

Birding: Finches at Desert Knoll

photography-birds-desert knoll-SwittersBMojave Desert Birds & Flora/Fauna

I enjoy the presence of birds like in the early morning. But, truth be told I can barely tell the difference between a seagull and a robin. I make the general effort to learn but I am usually caught guessing at best. Still I enjoy their presence unless I am on a lake playing a big fish in B.C. and the dastardly Loon arrives….but that’s another story.
