Lift off…

Tundra Swans take off from a pond on Sauvie Island (Oregon). Several posts back, I misidentified the large birds as Snow Geese. Snow Geese of black tipped wings and are generally smaller than the all white winged Tundra Swans…both inhabit the island.

‘Hello, I’m Harvey’

‘Hey, I’m Sybil’   The Blue Heron have started to pair up, high in the rookery trees. I have yet to find an accessible spot closer to the action. But, I will try…

hear the call…

“…whoever you are, no matter how lonely, the world offers itself to your imagination, calls to you like the wild geese, harsh & exciting – over & over announcing your place in the family of things.” Mary Oliver, Wild Geese

Vigilance…

“Vigilance of the wisest kind is to incessantly remain open to the reality that what I ‘see’ is but a single thread and solitary shard of what ‘is’, for to assume otherwise is to surrender the wisdom of vigilance to the decay of ignorance.” Craig Lounsbrough

C. S. Lewis on Do Gooder Tyranny

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
