Almost, but not quite…

Always fussing about with settings, in the off chance I might get a nice shot of a hummer flying/fluttering about the feeder…I need to enroll in Cindy’s class on ‘How to Photograph Hummers” 😃    https://cindyknoke.com

This was the best chance I had for the day…was preparing to lift off.

lil’ bird…

while the other hummingbirds flit about, fussing and chasing…this little one sat on a palm branch beside me for quite some time.

Heron (Eagle’s) Nests….

I came upon this view of multiple nests high in the trees. The foliage has not yet fully evolved, so the nests were quite visible against the bright, grey sky. Also, visible were a few Eagles landing into the nests. I couldn’t get close (maybe a couple hundred yards) and I did not have the right lens. But, I snapped a few shots to show the scope of Eagle’s Heron’s nests. I do hope to return with a more powerful lens and find a way to be closer to the trees.  (Update: Comments suggest these are Heron nests as Eagles would not nest so close together….the Eagles in the trees might have been visiting the Heron habitat? That bottom pic does have the look of a Heron. This is what happens when a novice puts a few observation together…still fun)

Lines & Shadows…..

I pushed my old Pentax Optio W60 into the net with the trout, beneath the water and snapped this shot. The lines and shadows from the net and the light penetrating the dorsal fin were unexpected. Light, beautiful light. Originally, the main reason I bought the Optio was to experiment with underwater shots for steelhead, salmon and trout when releasing them back, beneath the surface. It has become my backup secondary camera and I have never really used it as anticipated. If I can keep the water around the fish less turbid, at the point of release, I will try more underwater shots.

Making the News

Our granddaughter, Desirae, while with family at a park in Portland, was asked by a local news crew if she would like to participate in a segment on back to school thoughts. She readily agreed and the rest was a fun experience for the family…and especially Desi.
