Tree Taking ‘Foothold’ In a Crack

photography-SwittersB-tree-crack rock-The rock was about five feet high. A crack at the top of the rock had afforded a rooting place for this stout  tree that so perfectly blended, in color and texture, with the color/texture of the large rock. The sustaining moisture, for life, would only come from very intermittent rainfall. Yet the tree seemed to thrive putting forth a dense canopy of leaves. Below, the Banded Rock Lizard was equally camo’d with the color of the rock. Until the lizard moved, I didn’t even see it a few feet away. I imagine much of that was my lack of familiarity with my surroundings.
