Solitude & Self-reflection…

“By all means use sometimes to be alone. Salute thyself; see what thy soul doth wear.”   George Herbert

East Lake (Oregon) at dusk. A distant forest fire & winds brought the smokey haze into the area.

time to think…

“The greatest gift of life on the mountain is time. Time to think or not think, read or not read, scribble or not scribble — to sleep and cook and walk in the woods, to sit and stare at the shapes of the hills.” Philip Connors

Chimney Rock (Crooked River)

The Crooked River is a tailwater fishery SE of Prineville, Oregon. One spot we frequently camped at was below Chimney Rock along the river. Great fly fishing and usually quite private. This image is from 1991.

don’t include the swooping bats & mosquitos…time seems to mitigate the downsides and the good times remain…especially with a photo

Young love…

“The heart has its reasons that reason knows nothing of.” Blaise Pascal, Pensées, 1670

As an aside, I have recently been posting images taken by family members (son’s, nieces, brother in law, granddaughter, daughter & friends). I enjoy sharing their visions, which seem rooted in the outdoors (gardening, camping, hiking). The image above is from my niece, Monet of her sister (Lauren) & significant other (Zach) in Central Oregon camping.

Sic Semper Tyrannis

There’s No Accounting For Taste; Search the Blog for Much More. Thanks for Visiting!

C. S. Lewis on Do Gooder Tyranny

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
