Nature’s Balancing Act…

cold morning, coastal river…

first light, too cold to rush out to the edge of the river to wet a line. Have I become a fair weather fisherman? Slow but sure as the points of pain have accumulated, the mind/body seems ever more hesitant to stumble about in sub 30 F temps (0 C)

Soothing in the heat..

It’s only 80 today in Portland, Or….but much hotter elsewhere it appears. So, a suggestive image from 1973 in Eastern Oregon in the Ochoco Mountains…the temps were sub zero those few days…the coldest I have ever been exposed to. Quiet, still, so cold. I clicked a few shots with my old Pentax camera. The first one shows the snow covered Ochoco’s. Hope it gives a moments relief to the heat.

And, the second shot was along the John Day River just up from Dayville, Oregon

Bougainvillea

I wish I could grow this plant in Portland, Oregon. Right on the edge of hardiness for this region.

The petals are shivering….

The garden and especially the last roses are about done…the cold rains have arrived, the temps are dropping at night.

Sic Semper Tyrannis

C. S. Lewis on Do Gooder Tyranny

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
