Food: Whole Alligator for Large Parties

I have to admit, I recently watched a few episodes of a reality TV show called Swamp People. The gist of the show is to bait, hook and shoot alligators in Lousiana for bounty.

Well, a restaurant in Chicago called the Frontier offers an entire alligator for a party of 10-15 patrons. Hmmm?

Hot Sauce…For Real (Mad Dog 357) Too Much for Me!

Yesterday, at a work holiday luncheon I decided to put a dab of hot sauce on my chili. The bottle had a home made label affixed “this is really hot”. I put maybe a teaspoon of the dark sauce on my chili.

Boy Howdy!!! I doubt I took in more than a pea size quantity on the first bite and for the next hour I was in serious distress. So, if you are one of those freaks that enjoys truly hot sauces then this may well be enjoyable for you. For me, this is the third time in my life that I have entered into that very uncomfortable realm of “shit this is too!!!”. Mad Dog 357 not for the faint of heart!! I should have paid attention to that home made label. Somewhere in the room was someone with a wicked sense of humor watching my distress. I would say one bottle should last someone a decade!!

“This sauce will blow you away! 357,000 Scoville certified KILLER sauce! Mad Dog 357 Hot Sauce – will shoot your mouth down in flames. One hit and this sauce will blow you away! Finally, a super hot sauce that tastes like real chile peppers. This sauce is blended with ingredients that makes a sauce fit to take your breath away. About five seconds after you taste the recommended dose of one drop, prepare your mouth and mind for five to 20 minutes of agony that all true chili-heads fully understand and appreciate. Because it’s so powerful, the average chili freak can get 200,000 mind-blowing, fiery doses in each bottle. This sauce has a legal disclaimer printed directly on the label.” (X)

Cooking: Early Burgers the White Bread Way

burger-lunch-white breadLouis’ Lunch Burger

Does anyone remember a burger this way? This was my original burger at home. Didn’t see a hamburger bun, even a hot dog bun for many years…simply white bread.

Wonder Bread was originally produced by the Taggart Baking Company of Indianapolis, Indiana and debuted on May 21, 1921, after a blind promotion with ads that only stated a “Wonder” was coming on May 21, 1921. When it was launched, the new brand was named by vice president for merchandising development Elmer Cline, who was inspired by the International Balloon Race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Cline was filled with “wonder” by the scene of hundreds of balloons creating a kaleidoscope of color resulting in the iconic red, yellow and blue balloons featured on the Wonder Bread logo.”

Cooking: Cleaning that rusty cast iron utensil

During the hoarding cleanup, I must confess there was quite a bit of rusty cast iron cooking implements. Frankly, a lot of it went bye bye, rather than making the effort to clean it up. My dad always used cast iron fry pans when camping, cooking over a wood fire (Hoarding Woes & You)

Fowl Bacteria & Cooking Your Bird

“The moment you run water on your poultry, you start spewing a mist of unwanted pathogens all over the sink and nearby items, such as your dish rack, where clean plates and flatware are probably air-drying. You probably think you are washing bacteria off the bird–but you aren’t. Instead, the easiest and most effective way to eliminate bacteria is to kill them in the heat of the oven.” (More Cooking Your Birds Info Here)
