Sink holes…Sometimes Too Close!

sinkhole guat

Not just your ordinary hole in the floor!

There was a recent video released of a sink hole in a Chinese town. Not of the best quality, but you get the idea of how eery our surroundings could be.

But, as spooky as that one may or may not be, a sink hole from a few years back in Guatemala seems even more spooky. Imagine sleepy right above this narrow rabbit hole into the abyss? Well, kind of like an abyss.

Solar Flare & the Carrington Event

What would happen if another Carrington Event took place? Congress recently declined to spend $300 mil on a probable defense mechanism to the devastation that would take place. The consequences to such an event are estimated by scientist to last a year or more. Currently scientist are forecasting for such storms for the next ten years.

Think re your preparedness if such an event took place. Low probability/High Impact. It seems that this event may have a higher probability to occur than the often professed consequences of climate change? Either way, the inept government is not going to adequately handle these concerns so you might want to contemplate what if’s and how to’s if power were lost long term in your area.

Science: Mr. Barlow’s Interesting Stuff

“HE WHO LEARNS FROM ONE WHO IS LEARNING, DRINKS FROM A FLOWING RIVER.”

Barlow’s “A Bunch of Interesting Stuff” Blog

Peruse the Tags on the wide side and explore. I enjoyed a Nat Geo piece on African DNA testing and migrations in the face of suspected looming extinction to climate change long ago. Also, the world’s population consolidated to one city would be how big? I would seek an exemption and move Northwest! There is a lot of info here so explore and enjoy. I liked the above quote from Mr. Barlow’s blog too.

Climate Change & Drivel?

“Two months ago, James Lovelock, the godfather of global warming, gave a startling interview to msnbc.com in which he acknowledged he had been unduly “alarmist” about climate change. The implications were extraordinary. Lovelock is a world-renowned scientist and environmentalist whose Gaia theory — that the Earth operates as a single, living organism — has had a profound impact on the development of global warming theory.”  (X)

Nature….A Sacred Place

I feel sorry for those cut off from Nature. I feel sorry for those that use it as a vehicle to infringe upon my Liberty while professing to cherish it. A balance seems needed by those that trample upon Nature and those that trample upon Liberty. Lest you think the well intentioned fanatics on either end are a bit confused…I believe not. The intent is controlling some aspect of your life. I have had enough of the planners and glassy eyed believers. I have had enough of the abusers. Both sides need to wake up.

Came upon this in a park in Fairview, Oregon during the family’s Easter celebration nearby. To me, ‘Sacred’ means respect and reverence and a lot less noise.

World Time Zones, A Map

So obvious, but I often forget the time differences around the world. World Time Zones are interesting to me. The other morning when I arose my Century Link Internet access was kaput. I called the help line. My ear had to adjust to the lilt of an accent. During the course of the conversation, I asked the woman where she was located at. In ‘the Philipines’ she responded. Once finished, I thanked her and told her to have a nice day. Later, I wondered what time of day it was there and actually what day it was…fascinating. When I fished at Christmas Island, I would consider although I was approximately due South of the Hawaiian Islands, I was in a different timezone and at night finishing a day, my family was only just starting. Craziness for this C Math/Science student to assimilate.

WORLD TIME ZONE MAP…INTERESTING

CRACKED IN HALF ROAD: A view of a road destroyed by a landslide Tuesday in the southern Italian town of Maierato. A landslide, thought to have been caused by heavy rains in the region, split a hillside in Maierato the previous day. About 200 residents of the town in the Vibo Valentia province have had to be evacuated, authorities said. (Belcastro Antonietta/EPA) | WSJ
