Half Light of Dusk…

‘in the half-light of dusk’

“…in the half-light of dusk…before the night has plunged
things back into themselves there is a settlement in which
the external and the internal are continuous with the evening air
if you are alone at the edge of shadows you are not alone
the hours of light shine in you with a compacted energy that
also burns in tree and stone partly revealed and partly veiled..”

sweet spot

“I think we each have a personal sweet spot as well. It’s the state of mind in which we experience the most joy and satisfaction in being ourselves. And from that place of pleasure and joy in being ourselves, energy arises to flow out into our day bringing with it the depth and resonance of our own beingness, bringing with it blessing.” David Spangler

Wind Turbines, Energy or Tall Obsolescence

Turbines SB1Whether you see wind turbines as a bright star on the horizon of alternative energy production or a dark blight, a bird killer, a standing monument to man’s foolishness…the wind turbines, for me, are a surreal visual to get near, watch and photogaph. Near Hwy 10 in California, hundreds and hundreds of the turbines mostly spun along on this windy day. In the U.S as many as 14,000 wind turbines reportedly stand idle, abandoned and slowly decaying. Regardless of your thinking, I found them interesting to consider and all the questions they beg.

Tended Desert Scape & Bleary Eyes

Tended Desert Scape, Bleary Eyes (SwittersB)

Living in the Pacific NW, I feel fortunate to live with defined seasons that are rarely too harsh. It creates a sense of yearning though and that creates wanderlust to satisfy the needs. When the gloom of too much Winter grey closes in around late February (or sooner) then the warmth and sun of the desert beckons.  But, there is also a pull to that Winter river and swinging the rod for Steelhead. Soon enough, I will be wishing the dog days of Summer were near.

Columbia River Dams, BPA & Balancing the Forces

This is a lengthy, but very informative piece in Forbes about the Columbia River’s power/enviro management by BPA (and others) of 31 dams. A lot of good information in here. I queried this given the heavy dump of wet snow here last night, up the Gorge and wondering about runoff/flooding the next few days. I learned a lot more on the behind the scenes management of water running downhill to the ocean.

Obama Drilling Ban Over Turned: Impact to West U.S.

“CHEYENNE, Wyo. — A judge on Friday threw out Obama administration rules that sought to slow down expedited environmental review of oil and gas drilling on federal land.  U.S. District Judge Nancy Freudenthal ruled in favor of a petroleum industry group, the Western Energy Alliance, in its lawsuit against the federal government, including Interior Secretary Ken Salazar.” Huff Po Enviro

Outdoor Pledge (Just Leave Nanny Out of the Equation!)

Outdoor Life, 1962

Great idea. Just don’t let it be a vehicle driven by those that aim to control every aspect of your life. All sounds good ’til the never ending reg’s result.

New Madrid Fault Line & Mississippi Flooding

Awhile back, I posted several times re the New Madrid Fault line because I found it interesting as a geological-seismic-historical event. Then later, I posted a bit re the New Madrid Fault line and the current nuclear reactors in close proximity….wondering about the wisdom, given the events in Japan.

But, in a more grandiose vision, some have a different take on all this in light of recent flooding of the Mississippi River:

“The “once in 500 year” flooding of the Mississippi river over the New Madrid fault line is part of a campaign directed against the American people, according to multiple intelligence agency (MI6, CIA, FSB, Japan Security police) sources. The HAARP caused flooding is expected to be followed by an earthquake and then a “nuclear emergency” involving the 15 nuclear reactors located in the region. This will be a pretext for mass evacuations into FEMA camps, the sources say. The best way to derail this plan, apart from arresting the criminal cabal in Washington D.C., is to widely announce and denounce these plans in advance.”
