Beautiful Fungi….

While fishing along an Oregon coastal river for Steelhead, I came upon a tree about a foot in diameter that appeared to have been snapped off about four feet above the earth. Surrounding or encasing the remaining trunk were these fungi that appeared extra interesting to the macro lens.

Nature & Fungi: Stairway to Demise

Unfortunately they are most often a sign of poor health or death for a tree. Often found in wetlands, they feed off the host tree and actually can display rings of growth similar to a tree.
