Fly Tying Redux: The Prince & The Pauper

Showed these two patterns long ago and came upon them again. The simple removal of the biot tail takes the classic Prince Nymph (an excellent fly) and creates, I think, an excellent pattern, The Pauper.

Fly Tying: Biots for Wings

The Prince Nymph comes to mind as a recognizable fly pattern that utilizes white goose biots for a wing (and brown for the  tail). The Prince Nymph is a truly productive fly pattern for trout, in both lakes and streams. The biot wing can be tied aside and slightly below the horizontal plane of the hook shank to give the impression of a Caddis pupa wing, swept back and below the abdomen. Don’t know why I opted for these low light looks, but just how they turned out.
