I remember…

“The worst part of holding the memories is not the pain. It’s the loneliness of it. Memories need to be shared.” Lois Lowry, The Giver

hollyhocks…

I can’t recall anymore whether my Dad or Mom had the fascination with Hollyhocks. There they were each Summer, unruly stocks leaning this way and that…honey bees and bumblebees visiting the numerous flowers. A few years ago, I harvested seeds from the last remaining Hollyhocks in their yard, after they had passed and the house was being sold. As with my parent’s roses & fuchsias, that I have transplanted to our home, I enjoy a touch of the past with the Hollyhocks too.

Old School: Hollyhocks

One of the recollections I have of  my parent’s gardens and others in the neighborhood, is of Hollyhocks reaching high above the other plants. They were great bee attractors and hummingbirds visited too.
