Lap Dog: “I want to be let alone”

“I never said, ‘I want to be alone.’ I only said ‘I want to be let alone!’ There is all the difference.”  Greta Garbo (Garbo)

Our 70 pound (that’s what she says she weighs), devoted Lab, Emma, sometimes reverts back to that smaller, soft eared lap dog. Except now she is a lug. I will take the weight, the hair, the moment.

Emma Big Lap Dog SwittersB

A Dog’s Love in Haiku

Emma side snoozing SwittersBEmma’s beyond 10 years now. She snoozes more, has arthritis in her front knees, has had several surgeries, and her shedding is continuous. But life without her is kept from the mind’s eye. Such love and loyalty, such awareness of our moods, movements and expressions. As attuned as can be, unless she is snoozing.

Dog Haiku

I lie belly-up

In the sunshine, happier than

You will ever be.

Today I sniffed

Many dog behinds-I celebrate

By kissing your face.

How do I love thee?

The ways are as numberless as

My hairs on the rug.

My human is home!

I am so ecstatic I have

Made a puddle.

Sleeping here, my chin On your foot-no greater bliss.

Look in my eyes and Deny it. No human could love you as much as I do.

I am your best friend,

Now, always, and especially

When you are eating.

(author unknown-abridged)

Emma Is Half Way There…Thank You

Emma, according to the doc, held up just fine. He got in and found a severely ruptured disc and pulled it out like strands of spaghetti. The bleeding was a potential problem so he didn’t dawdle. Her weak heart held up. Now we wait several days to see what shakes….hopefully that tail. And, as was said today, by Craig in the comments section, the rehab is as challenging for the care givers as for the pup. Small price to pay. If no further complications in the weeks to come Emma girl will be shaking that rear end soon.

The most sincere thanks to all here and at Hoarding Woes that extended their very kind well wishes and prayers. Thank you!

The Light at the End of the Tunnel & Fetch

The oft heard ‘light at the end of the tunnel’. Oregon Coast (TMuncy)

What can seem like the normal, the taken for granted spots…the beach, the mountains. Out of town company from the mid-West arrives. What to do. Take them to Mt. Hood’s Timberline Lodge, drive up the Columbia River Gorge, hit some Saturday Street Market, and head on down to the Oregon Coast. I really don’t take it for granted and it always has the desired results on the out of town company. Photos by TMuncy, my son. He has a nice eye for composition.

Why I have a dog (and don’t trust cats)

Now, all you old women with cats etc, don’t think I don’t like a cat here and there. I grew up with cats and know from first hand experience just how cantankerous and unpredictable a cat is. Life is too short to put up with anymore mental instability then you have to. So, I have grown accustomed to the lazy predictability of my dawg. Loyalty, subservient and just plain sweet compared to goofy cats. Check out the link and beware…if they don’t get you, they will cost you money. No wonder they have nine lives.
