Pacific City’s Haystack Rock: Nature’s Editing of Light

Took a sequence of shots of Pacific City’s 340′ Haystack Rock (originally named Chief Kiawanda Rock for the head of the Nestugga Tribe…it would have been nice to have kept that name seeing as there is another Haystack Rock just up the coast at Cannon Beach) and later noted the change in natural lighting from about 3:30pm to 5:00pm.

The Party: Red Light~Blue Light

We attended a party this past weekend. A raucous affair for a residential neighborhood. Live music, a diverse crowd of mostly counter-culture persuasion. Nary a soul san ink. The air was pungent, scented with the herb. The music was inciting of happy feet and possessed gyrations. It could have been 1972.

I couldn’t help but notice the night-time lighting in the landscaping. I moved through the sweaty, moving bodies to snap a few shots…yes, there I was moving through the Rhody taking photos as if trying to find Alice’s rabbit hole. No Alice wasn’t ten feet tall………….

Crane Prairie Reservoir: Passing Day & The Snag

Crane Prairie in the Morning

Crane Prairie at Noon

Crane Prairie at Dusk

Found these old photographs from the early 80’s. Apparently I had time to take plenty of photos, so the fishing must not have been working out for me. I remember lots of small bass and few of the large trout that the lake was noted for. Central Oregon residents felt compelled to ‘ruin’ trophy trout lakes by introducing bass or by using live bait that proliferated at alarming rates. Not sure who was more lame, the ODFW or the live bait slinging locals. Either way the lake, Crane Prairie Reservoir, took a hit as did Davis and Diamond lakes. It may be making a come back thirty years later.
