Tall grass…….

As you sit on the hillside, or lie prone under the trees of the forest, or sprawl wet-legged by a mountain stream, the great door, that does not look like a door, opens. ~Stephen Graham, The Gentle Art of Tramping

Carl Sandburg and Goats

Carl Sandburg once said, “Goats are friendly. You can talk with them. A cow doesn’t know what you are saying. But these goats come up very quietly and brush against you, as if to say, Isn’t life good?”

Photographer KHammond captured the oldest goat on the family farm, in Missouri, named Charlie and shared it with SwittersB

Carl Sandburg and his wife Paula raised varieties of goats on their family farm. Sandburg spent the last two decades of his life on the farm and completed a large portion of his works while living there. Below is a photo from Life Magazine (Feb. 31, 1938 issue) showing Carl Sandburg and is daughter Helga singing to goats inside their farm house. Goats might have endearing qualities.
