FinDac in Portland…

A beautiful 70′ tall mural in SE Portland’s Industrial District by on FinDAC (Finbarr Notte of Ireland) Notice the hair…very interesting! Bio info: BIOGRAPHY. This was a tricky spot to grab a few shots without powerlines, poles or getting run over by cars. Perfect day and timing and angle.

fishin’ flies…

wall mural-Seattle-fish-NW Beer-SwittersB

Here is a quite simple larva/pupa pattern I use for suspended chrionomid/midge fly fishing on lakes or just presented along the bottom on a stream. The pattern has been productive for Kamloops, Rainbows & Cutts. The pattern has an under layer of brighter thread wraps along the middle portion of the shank, which provides the darker bump beneath the over layer of latex wraps. These were wrapped front (eye) back toward the bend of the hook and tied off, but you can tie it the traditional way (rear of hook toward the eye of the hook).

‘suspended’: beneath a strike indicator, which presents the fly just above the bottom or just above the vegetation…or on a tippet ‘greased’ with floatant to within 6 to 12″ of the fly (both presentations for lakes).

Just a reminder, if you didn’t know, SwittersB used to be SwittersB & Fly Fishing. There is about 6 years of how to’s, fly patterns and techniques. If you have a fledgling interest in fly fishing and fly tying peruse the archives.

DALeast Mural ~ Portland

While down in the inner Eastside industrial area of Portland the other day, I came upon a mural. It was a large piece of work on a somewhat obscure wall. I snapped a few shots and noticed the artist’s signature. Well apparently, after a little followup, the artist DALeast is world renowned and has quite the history of cool murals.

Here’s a link to Jonathan Levine Gallery in which he captured DALeast doing the mural.

“Portland-based project Forest For The Trees took to the streets just last month, unleashing 20 burgeoning graphic artists on the streets of the City of Roses to promote visual collaboration and creativity. As a part of this city-wide exhibition, internationally renowned muralist DALeast created a large-scale piece in his penchant long-brushstroke style. Dubbed “Persistent Parabola,” the piece is intended to represent the artist’s internal struggles with impermanence when related to the vastness of the ocean, or industry, even; based on the Chinese proverb: “Water can carry a boat, it can also turn it upside down.” Hypebeast
