There are some excellent outdoor photographers that drop by here now and then. I have their sites down the right side of my blog listings. I like the work of Jeffrey Foltice too. Check out PhotoNatureBlog.

Adventure Photography: Tyler Stableford

Came across the name Tyler Stableford from a woman’s blog (Sue Melus at Deerfly Diaries). Her husband, Glenn, was on the cover of Cabela’s. She was quite proud of her hubby and took time to mention Stableford, who took the pic. A look at Stableford’s body of work shows amazing shots, often on the move. An art in itself. Beyond fly fishing, but still interesting.

Rich Schaaff Passes & The Awe Factor

SwittersB

I have read several posts tonight by friends of Rich Schaaff. He  just passed away. I didn’t have the privilege of meeting Rich in person. He is described as an exceptionally nice man. Sometime back, I found his blog and was struck, awe struck, by the beauty of his work. Several of the fly fishing photographers of today inspire awe. Their work, for me, is  often a glimpse of heaven’s gate on earth. Rich Schaaff’s work was truly inspiring in that light.  East Fork Fly At peace now. . . .

Jay Moor + Exclamatory Words and Phrases

There are many notable photographers that seem to combine the camera and the environs of the rod. An always noteworthy one is Jay Moor. As you peruse his images you will indeed utter your ingrained selection of words that show awe, respect and appreciation. I think we all agree this is the medium…the visual…that transports the work bound, house bound, duty bound to places they have never been or not been to in too long a time.

Fly Fishing’s Downtime (Between the camp and the lake)

I have never been one to get out on a lake at first light. Surprises me as I am on a river at 0-dark-30 for salmon, steelhead, trout. But, for a stillwaters I am in no hurry. If I am on the lake by 9:00am I am doing fine. So, I like the early morning. The sun cresting a ridge top bringing warmth to the face, removing the morning chill. I usually sit with a cup of coffee, smoking my briar, camera nearby and just take in the calm. Few people up. Maybe one boat on the lake. One or two old timers sitting in their folding chairs lake side watching their ‘poles’. It is during this time of low angled light that I observe the possibilities for photo’s. I do not dilly dally with the set up or settings. I just snap and hope for the best in my undisciplined way.
