always feels good…

Born and raised in the Pacific NW of the U.S., I am accustomed to moisture, evergreens and moss. So when I travel to the SW desert region, I am always captivated by the cacti and rugged terrain. Oh, also the Winter chill is countered by pleasant sunshine and warmth. I know it can get cold there and, of course, blazing hot. Timing is everything.

Home to roost…

The other day, I mistakenly described numerous nests high in the trees as Eagle’s nests. I had seen several Eagles gliding amongst these trees and perched atop these trees. More knowledgeable birders than I, knew these nests were a Heron Rookery. Today, I ventured back out to the area. I could not get any closer, but I had a slightly more powerful lens and I was able to capture a few pics of the Heron as they hunkered down atop the nests and other Heron arrived with what appeared to be food. The quality of the images isn’t great, but you can see the Heron are indeed occupying the nests.

Photography: Summer’s Delight…Out of Sight

Summer NIght..Last Light SB

For most places in the northern latitudes, Summer is an evaporating memory. That fading light, beautiful sunsets, and a bit of warmth left to the day….that was a Summer’s evening fishing. It felt so good…so healthy. Now the holidays loom and then that long ride through the Winter…patience in the Pacific NW.

Spiders, Monkeys and Dinosaurs

I just come upon these oddities of discoveries and find them fascinating. The discovery in itself is interesting as is the ‘Who spends their life doing this? Who finances this stuff? What does it matter, beyond a minute worth of curiosity? What new discoveries will lead to cures, fixes and wonderment? Just some odds and ends that seem refreshing and pure compared to the craziness erupting in the Middle East.

Tended Desert Scape & Bleary Eyes

Tended Desert Scape, Bleary Eyes (SwittersB)

Living in the Pacific NW, I feel fortunate to live with defined seasons that are rarely too harsh. It creates a sense of yearning though and that creates wanderlust to satisfy the needs. When the gloom of too much Winter grey closes in around late February (or sooner) then the warmth and sun of the desert beckons.  But, there is also a pull to that Winter river and swinging the rod for Steelhead. Soon enough, I will be wishing the dog days of Summer were near.
