Raising a Paw to You
“The cat lives alone, has no need of society, obey only when she pleases, pretends to sleep that she may see more clearly, and scratches everything upon which she can lay her claws.” Francois R. Chateaubriand
“The cat is the animal to whom the Creator gave the biggest eyes, the softest fur, the most supremely delicate nostrils, a mobile ear and an unrivaled paws with curved claws borrowed from the rose tree.” Sidonie Gabrielle
More often than not, Penny the Cat is invisible. Since she came to us almost fours years ago this week, she has rarely parcelled out much affection to anyone but me now and then. I can occasionally feel her wedged in beside me at night in bed. I will place my hand on her side and she does not stir. Try that in the daytime and you may receive teeth or claws in response for violating her space.
Since Ninnie the Cat (Tortoise Shell Calico) came into our lives a year ago, she has been a paw full for Penny to contend with. This makes Penny the Cat all the more cantankerous to deal with. Many mornings, I am awakened by Penny brushing her paw against my face or neck to alert me it is time to get up and feed the critters. I only receive a faint hint of the retracted claws drawn down against my skin.

The PAWS posted this photograph of a dog being transported, as such, in the Philippines. Not exactly like riding in the back bed of the pickup. I wonder if that is the driver’s version of a gentle leader around the muzzle & neck? In my estimation, the pup deserves more dignity than depicted.
