Cat Lovers Only…

She raises her head to gaze outside. It’s cold and windy out there. Normally, she would sit atop her perch, by the window, to take in every fleeting thing. The humming bird feeders would definitely draw constant attention. But, not today…Penny the Cat’s head is heavy. She prefers, today, to lounge at the end of the couch, eyes closed and mind at ease. Her lazy, shedding days certainly infects my energy levels. So much to do outside, but maybe tomorrow………..

I’d rub your belly, but…..

Penny the Cat-pets-cats-Tabby-photography-SwittersB

I know to let sleeping Penny lie. That inviting fat cat tummy would invite a chaotic response and immediate first aid. Better to enjoy the fact that she was relaxed enough to sprawl out. Always on her terms.

The Look: Slowly move away

Yes, that’s the way Penny the Cat rolls. A bit unpredictable. Her look telegraphs her intent every time. Ignore it at your own peril. The only saving grace is she does not attack without provocation (well intended rubs, pats, scrunches). Direct pressure works. Wash the wounds.

Cat Nap

“When I play with my cat, who knows if I am not a pastime to her more than she is to me?” ~Michel de Montaigne, Essays, 1580

Oh, this now seems like a splendid idea. And, yes she sheds!

Ninnie the Cat: “He Said What?”

“Who are you going to believe? Me or some stuffed chew toy?” Ninnie the Cat

“I found it this way!”

Oddly, Penny the Cat is no where to be seen? The expressive eyes, the combination of the ribbon and Mr. Bubbles chew toy was priceless. And, Ninnie the Cat does not sit still for more than a few seconds making photos difficult of the always moving cat. Here, she sat still and just stared up.

Days End…Contentment

“They say a sunset is an artist’s pallet,
Of colors so intense and full of pigment,
A photographer’s dream.”

“The birds call to each other,
Telling them of free food,
High above the house of cats.”

Penny the Cat Perched High

Cats are domesticated, but their instinctive knowledge – imprinted from living for millenniums in the wild – has not faded. Cats share a strong instinct to climb, compelling them to seek out high places even when you and your dog are nowhere to be seen. From a raised perch, they’re able to observe their territory without worrying about predators, and can wait with an eye out for prey.

Cats also instinctively seek out hideaways as part of their natural behavior, both for hunting and protection. That’s why they seek out the shadows, the secret perches, and why, when you least expect it, you notice eyes glowing from some dark space between the wall and the couch. (x)

The Mouse’s Last Meal

I went out this morning to do an inventory on fly tying materials, in what I thought was a fairly secure container. I haven’t tied that much in the last few months. So, I was a bit surprised to find a deceased mouse inside the container surrounded by a gooey mass of rubber legs used for fly tying. The mouse/mice had entered via a very small crack and had their way, until one of them had his fill of too much synthetics.

I found this kind of interesting from a photographic perspective and snapped a few shots. As I finished, I looked across the room and noticed Penny the Cat with a most displeased expression. I muttered, ‘Pretty cool huh Penny?’ (Yes I carry on conversations with all my pets, and they answer sometimes too).

Penny the Cat: ‘Whatever. Leave me alone in that garage and I could solve that problem.’
