rain, colder & rakes…

‘Besides the Autumn poets sing
A few prosaic days
A little this side of the snow
And that side of the Haze…
Grant me, Oh Lord, a sunny mind—
Thy windy will to bear!’
Emily Dickinson

Portland Bridges…

the Marquam Bridge (1966) stretches I-5 (North/South Bd.) across the Willamette River at the south end of Portland, Oregon. Note the old submarine moored at the Oregon Museum of Science & Industry (OMSI). I took this photo from the Tilikum Crossing Bridge (2015). Twelve bridges span the Willamette River in the Portland Metro area.

Sic Semper Tyrannis

C. S. Lewis on Do Gooder Tyranny

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
