The last of Winter…

on the West end of the Columbia River Gorge at Multnomah Falls. I see the Daphne budding out by the front porch. A little more warmth, a little Spring like fragrance hitting the nose would be nice.

Roses in Winter…

Envious of roses in the Winter…came across these at a friend’s garden in Rancho Mirage, California. Certainly makes me yearn for my garden, which sits dormant waiting for Springtime in Oregon.

Good signs…

The daffodils have pushed through the just thawed garden soil…the camellias are sporting buds and the hydrangea have new growth showing. Soon enough…

Rolling along…

Normally, along this stretch of river the submerged shelf here is elevated enough that there are rapids here that cascade over the shelf falling about a foot or so. The water is up now at Winter flows. The pool remains, if deeper, and the Steelhead will still hold here before pushing up into the tail of the drift above.

what do you find to do when….

you’re hunkered down inside during a Winter’s night? Reading a book, perusing the ‘net, watching bad TV, creating in the kitchen, crafting, napping, working in the shop, going on FB for the umpteenth time, listening to music, staying in touch with loved ones……?

one has to have faith…

in the path to renewal and new beginnings…the bleak, decaying cornfield cannot become the visual one carries through the Winter doldrums 🙂

Sic Semper Tyrannis

There’s No Accounting For Taste; Search the Blog for Much More. Thanks for Visiting!

C. S. Lewis on Do Gooder Tyranny

“Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.”
