Wildfires in Oregon are generating falling ash in Portland and a smokey veil across the sky. This image of the moon last night shows a subtle sepia quality to the image. Hours earlier the moon was quite bright, but by early morning when this image was taken the sky was seemingly cloudy with smoke and ash falling.

East Lake (Oregon) at dusk. A distant forest fire & winds brought the smokey haze into the area.
It seemed most of the days we traveled about the Joshua Tree/Salton Sea areas, there was a haze in the air. The crisp blue skies were sometimes missing. I then learned that the smoke from massive fires in Siberia was reportedly being carried across the Pacific Ocean into the Western U.S. A bit sobering considering Fukushima Daiichi?
Below is the smoke filtering into the East Lake (Oregon) caldera from a nearby forest fire in 2006. It is not unusual during the Summer forest fire season in Oregon to have smoke drift into areas from the fires to the South/East.

Recent forest fires in Central Oregon have created a regional smoky haze that hung in the sky as an interesting filter for the sun, rising or setting. Here I took a few minutes to capture the sun rising through the haze.
