Cactus Bloom & Spines

Mojave Cactus, Bloom, spines, Joshua Tree NP, flowers, photo, SwittersB

Cacti & Thorns (Spines): Why?

Why does a cactus have those dangerous spines? At first consideration, it seems probable a cactus’ spines are there to redirect my shins or other exposed body parts.
