The ‘brook’ is down, exposing a boulder here and there, the shoreline is gradually exposed as the water level drops…but, in the shade, the shaded spot offers a respite from the heat, a soothing sound and usually an upstream breeze to cool the sweat on the brow.

A walk up…
an old forest trail got steeper and steeper. The sound of rushing water could be heard off to the side. I decided to venture off the trail, on a probable game trail, toward the sound of water. The wet forest was inviting, the steep trail not so much. A short distance in, I came across the tumbling stream heading for the Columbia River…not another person in sight.
